Our Plan
Restoring the voice of the people.
A free and equal nominating process.
An innovative way to outsmart extreme partisanship.
Focusing only on uncontested districts, both red and blue, America’s Main Street Party will utilize the web to offer a free and equal system for nominating members of Congress.
The Party plans to outdraw the public primary and create competition in elections where there typically is none. Young people, one of the hardest groups to get to the polls, will participate in greater numbers.
A multi-round contest concurrent with the public primary.
Nominating a Congressional candidate outside the public election system isn’t as far-fetched as you might think. The major parties do it all the time, except theirs happens in a back room.
This rebooted nominating process utilizes a local political committee and the Party app to screen candidates, register constituents and administer the system. Potential nominees use the platform to build a campaign with each getting an equal number of characters, pixels, and minutes of video.
The process starts with an endorsement round in which constituents examine the field and select multiple contestants for the next round. Those with the most endorsements advance.
The next round is a Virtual Town Hall where potential nominees are provided the opportunity to address local and national issues. Constituents, able to view the Town Hall online at any time, will pick their top two.
In the last round, there will be a debate and a final vote with the winner always garnering a majority.
There won’t be people from outside your district involved in determining your nominee. Nor will there be attack ads, text messages, junk mail, yard signs and media polls. Just public service announcements with friendly reminders to do your civic duty.
In the general election, a powerful megaphone.
After the Party nominee is chosen, a media campaign will be funded by the Super PAC. The Super PAC will have a broad campaign for the overall movement, plus an individual campaign for the Party nominee.
This method of campaign financing offers the Party nominee credibility. Awarding the Super PAC funds after the people have chosen assures that ideological strings cannot be attached. It’s merely a tool to support the candidate chosen by the people. Voters know this candidate is their true voice, untainted by partisan money.
The Super PAC will have the resources for professional management, removing a large burden from the Party candidates, but without any impermissible coordination with the nominee.
A free and equal nominating system that’s easy to use will outdraw the public primary. People see an outdated system and desperately want change. If the contest is fair and the app is friendly, our winner will emerge with many thousands more votes than that of the public primary.
If this were sports, our nominee would be going into the playoffs as the favorite, and that perception is enormously important in political elections.
Repurposing the political committee system requires no new laws.
The major parties like the way the current election system works. To maintain job security, all they need to do is toe the party line. Campaign finance reform legislation rarely gets out of committee.
America’s Main Street Party delivers reform without requiring any act of Congress. Under our system, a local nominating (political) committee and a Super PAC, operating within the regulations of the Federal Election Commission, work with America’s Main Street Party to eliminate the influence of money.
Once neither party can establish a Congressional majority, the voice of the people will be heard and election reform legislation made possible.
